Must-Try DIY Essential Oil Deodorants
Deodorant is a vital toiletry that we use at least once or twice every day. But, there are hidden dangers of deodorants because of the hazardous ingredients that they contain. Now, if you are one of those people who is planning to making his or her own deodorant, you’re not alone.
You may not know it but our underarms are highly susceptible because they absorb much of what is put on them. So why not just start making your own already? Check out the following DIY essential oil deodorant recipes that are itch and rash-free!

There are simply four ingredients that you will need:
- 1/2 cup coconut oil
- 1/4 cup arrowroot powder
- 1/4 cup baking soda
- 1/4 tsp essential oil
When you make your own deodorant, you get to choose your benefits. The oil, powder, and baking soda are all necessities; the essential oils are necessary as well, but you can add whichever you’d like and get different benefits from each.
Then, follow these steps:
1. Melt the coconut oil down to a liquid state.
2. Mix in essential oil. (Read on for essential oil combinations)
3. Add in arrowroot powder and baking soda and mix until smooth.
4. Pour into an airtight jar or container, and apply with your fingers or a small spatula.
5. When the coconut oil sets (after some time) the deodorant will be in a semi-solid state.
Which Oils Are Essential?
The essential oils in all these mixes are: antimicrobial, antibacterial, antiseptic, astringent, and anti-inflammatory. All the oils chosen have some degree of these properties. Some of the oils were chosen more for smell than for health.
Essential Oils #1:
Add a drop or two of each oil until you’ve got ¼ teaspoon of oil.
Cypress and Geranium are natural deodorizes. Clove bud is an antioxidant and has anti-aging properties. Grapefruit tones the skin and lemon removes toxins.

Essential Oils #2:
- 9 drops ylang ylang
- 8 drops frankincense
Frankincense is an anti-inflammatory, natural stress reliever, and helps with arthritis as well as colds and coughs. Ylang ylang essential oil has a pleasant smell and immune strengthening properties.
Essential Oils #3:
- 5 drops cedarwood
- 5 drops geranium
- 4 drops tea tree
- 3 drops patchouli
This mix was called “The Original” presumably because the natural smell, and it’s anti-fungal, antiseptic properties. Cedarwood has long been used to clear oily skin, tea tree oil helps keep and maintain healthy skin, and patchouli has a strong smell that covers up bad body odor.
Essential Oils #4:
- 10 drops lavender
- 4 drops lemon
- 3 drops rosemary
“The Lavender Blend” will have you smelling lovely. This blend focuses on smelling good and feeling even better. Not to say that you won’t smell amazing, but these aromatics are also amazing relaxants that will have you feeling calm and thinking straight in no time.

Essential Oils #5:
- 10 drops frankincense
- 7 drops sandalwood
As previously mentioned, frankincense is a natural stress reliever. Sandalwood has many of the same properties, but also works great as a deodorant because of its pleasant smell.
This deodorant won’t have the same antiperspirant properties that some deodorants have, but it will keep you smelling good all day with only minimal use.
